sale el sol, 2025

This painting is named after Pachyman’s track“Sale el Sol,” or “the sun rises,” and it’s all about emergence, radiance, and rhythm. The title carries both a literal and emotional weight for me: it’s about light breaking through, but also about energy rising after a long night, in sound, in spirit, in collective memory.

Visually, this piece evokes a sunrise in space, with starbursts, atomic orbits, and cosmic florals layered into a sky that’s never still. It’s busy but not chaotic, pulsing with a beat that holds everything together. I imagined each form as a tone or frequency, a piece of the mix, some bright and foregrounded, others low and grounding. There’s a dub sensibility here again, a sense of layering and delay, of elements dropping in and out of sync.

The yellows and golds anchor the painting, like sunlight scattered across a dubplate. They’re set against deep blacks and sudden pops of color, creating contrast that feels like a beat flipping from minor to major, melancholy giving way to joy.

This one’s about hope, but not in a naïve way. It’s about what it means to return to light again and again, knowing it will always come back, even if the rhythm changes.
