P.S. (2017)

A series of “portraits” I made of the chairs at the Chapel of the Chimes, a columbarium, mausoleum, and cemetery in the Piedmont, Oakland, California.

They are witnesses and registers of the actions of those who have come to visit and pay their respects to deceased family members kept there. Each chair is set amid dramatic effects of light and shadow, which change throughout the day and give a preternatural aura to each of these.

  1. Me fascina este lugar y su gente; los vivos y los muertos. Es mágico y surreal allí, una paz infinita. Me llama mucho este “approach” desde algo tan mundano como una silla y el peso que tiene en el espacio. El punto de vista “gaze” permite esto…
